Lauric acid is the common name for dodecanoic acid. It is a linear, saturated fatty acid with the molecular formula C12H24O2 and CAS number 143-07-7. Public sources describe it as a white solid substance; it occurs naturally especially in coconut oil and palm kernel oil.
